Now that you have built that great website, joined the perfect affiliate program, created the most sort after product, how do you get others to know about it?

In one word, advertising! In a couple of words, lots of advertising.

Well, let’s begin by reviewing some of the things we know about advertising before talking about viral advertising. What actually is advertising? According to one definition by Dictionary.com, It is “the act or practice of calling public attention to one’s product, service, need, etc., esp. by paid announcements in newspapers and magazines, over radio or television, on billboards, etc..” Notice how it says, “by paid announcements.” But does it have to be paid always? Not when we introduce the viral element of advertising. Remember, we want advertising for free!

There are quite a few things you can do to get others to know about your site or business or product using viral advertising.

Before going viral, lets talk about some of the things you can do with your advertising generally to start gaining some traction. You could start by telling your friends about your service or product, and have your friends tell their friends and so on. That is advertising by Word of mouth and there is a kind of viral element to that. If you have a website, you could make your site in such a way that the search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN and the rest of them would love it. You could put a lot of unique content on your site, use meta tags to do on page optimization and build related links to boost your relevance and ranking with the search engines. This is called Search Engine Optimization (SEO). And because the search engines love your site, they will bring exposure as a kind of reward for your efforts.

You could immediately go to any of the search engines such as Google, or Yahoo, or Miva and set up an advertising campaign, where you pay only when searchers click on your ad. This is called Pay Per Click or PPC advertising. You could even do the more recent variation, a kind of pay per incident called Pay Per Play, where you pay when searcher listen to your ad.

There are also traffic exchanges and article directory sites that you can use to bring traffic and attention to your site or product. The later is called Article Marketing and is a very solid and profitable form of adverting. This is simply the art of crafting unique articles about your brand, or service or product and creating a web page for the article on your site and then submitting a variation of the article to the article directories with a link back to your website. If your article is great, other webmaster pick it up and republish it on their sites with your back link, bringing authority and traffic to your site.

But these all cost time and or money. No advertising is really free or is it? Well, No and Yes! No because it will cost you time or money or both time and money to get your advertising momentum going. And yes, because once you get your momentum going, you can add a tweak to your advertising that can really make your ads free. That is the viral part of advertising.

What are the quickest and simplest ways to get your advertising momentum going?

Some of the simplest, easiest and most cost-effective ways to get your momentum going is by running solo, sponsored or classified ads.

Solo Ads: Solo ads are ads sent to an email list or a list of ezine or newsletter readers with no other ads on it. Solo ads when sent to a target audience are very effective because there are no competing offers on the page. The reader is presented with your ad and your ad alone. That is why they are called solo ads.

Classified Ads When placed at the right place and worded carefully, classified ads are also pretty effective. Because there are other competing ads, they are not as effective as a solo ad. By merely tweaking your headline, text format and duration of ad placement, you can improve the performance of your classified ad.

Sponsored Ads In-between solo ads and classified ads are sponsored ads. Sponsored ads are placed at the beginning, middle or end of ezine or newsletter articles. By reason of their placement and size, they tend to perform better than classified ads but not as well as solo ads.

Pay Per Click Campaigns are also quick and effective, but they can be expensive if you don’t know what you are doing. You could loose your shirt with runaway campaigns.

Adding a viral twist to your advertising

There a few ways you can add a viral advertising spin to your advertising campaign. But what actually is viral advertising? It is simply a way of bringing attention to your products, services, brand or campaign by leveraging the help and effort of others.

Article Writing, as mentioned earlier is one way to bring a viral effect to your traffic. As you gain prominence in your niche, and other webmasters pick up your articles for publication, there is an element of viral-ness that kicks in and brings you additional exposure and traffic at no extra effort or cost.

Once you begin to bring some traffic to your site or product, you can use other tools, such as tell a friend form on your site, with incentives to leverage off of the help of your visitors. Hotmail did it and exploded their subscription base. Recently, we have witnessed the explosion of social sites such as Myspace, Facebook and several others going from obscurity to notoriety in no time. But these are just social sites and they can provide you leverage if you just want to promote your face.

But there are also sites that provide a platform for you to put a viral spin to your business for free. A quick search on Google will turn out a truck load of such sites. But how many of them actually produce the results they claim can only be known from actually participating. Without doubt, the way to go with your advertising is to go viral. Why? Because viral advertising is quick, it is free, and it is self-sustaining. You can see author resource area for more information.

Now that you have your website up and going, you are going to want as many people as possible to come and have a look at what you have to offer. This process is commonly referred to as search engine optimization. What you really should be shooting for is having your website displayed on the first page of search engines on the Internet, because this means that people will naturally tend to go to your website.

Having a catchy name can also help, because you will have other websites on the page with you. Using a popular key Word or phrase in your name can only help in this regard. At the same time you will want to have the key word or phrase relate to what you are selling, so once they go to your website they will see what they are looking for.

If you have more than one key phrase that you want to have optimized then you should devote a separate page in your website for each phrase. This is because having several key phrases on the same page can dilute the optimizing effect that you are after. The longer the key phrase, the better off you are, because short key phrases are too generalized.

For instance using the Word “fishing” as a key phrase is far more general than using the phrase “shore fishing” or “fishing and angling”. Key phrases are an important part of SEO but there are other things that you can do as well. Submitting articles to article directories is another method of search engine optimization and it is recommended that you submit no more than five articles a day to avoid being “sandboxed” by Google. Another method of search engine optimization is to use the services of an SEO company, as there are many online.

Did you know that you can use Local Google Search to promote your own business? Whether you have a store, restaurant or even at home business, you can list your information in Local Google Search for free and your listing will come up in the search engines. This is easy and can provide you with customers from all over the world. Whether you deal with international customers or even if you have a local pizza parlor, you can get more customers by promoting your business using local Google search and search engine optimized articles.

To get your business listed in Local Google Search you need to create a Google name, which is free and log on. You can then enter your business information into the system. Google maps will list directions to your business as well as the phone number and street address. If you have a website, the website will be featured in the local Google search so that customers can be directed to your business.

Once your business is established on local Google search, there is an option where customers can review your business and even write testimonials. If these articles are written with SEO keywords, you can get even more traffic to your business through the search engines. This can not only give local people a chance to learn all about your business, but also others who may be interested in visiting.

Setting up a local Google search is easy. Google is very user friendly so you just need to come up with a username and password. These should be kept in a safe place as you will want to make sure you have them to log in whenever you want to access your account. You can monitor your traffic as well as your reviews from this site. This is a good way for customers to be able to find your business using the search engines. It is also very helpful for customers to have your business phone number as well as an address. And because the maps can give them directions to your store or restaurant, they do not have to worry about getting lost.

Many people rely on Google local search to find the names and phone numbers of restaurants and other businesses. As more than 80 percent of Americans use the internet, more and more of us are becoming accustomed to finding this information online. You do not want to have someone skip over your restaurant or place of business simply because you were not listed in the local Google search.

By using SEO reviews, you can not only tell people more about your business without it costing you any money, but customers have even more of a chance to find you on the search engines. The more reviews that you have, the higher your ranking in the search engines so it is essential that you get your good customers to give you reviews online to get your name out there.

Once you get started using Local Google Business Search, you will wonder how you ever got along without it. Not only that, but you will be amazed at all of the customers who will come to your place of business who will tell you that they found you “through the internet. ” Check out local Google search today and get started.

Thinking about adding an effective search engine optimization (SEO) strategy to your advertising and marketing campaign this year? Before starting your program, it is important to first know who your online competitors are and what kind of online marketing strategies they are already doing. You will want to take some time to research and analyze your local and national competitors online…before they analyze you first.

Here are some guidelines and questions to consider while performing research on the Internet about your competitors:

Website Design and Layout

· Are your competitors using a search engine friendly Web design, like a basic HTML or ASP site?

· Are they using JavaScript, a dynamically-driven site, frames, or tables that will prevent search engines from properly indexing their sites?

· Are any Web sites built entirely in flash?

· Are their sites easy to navigate with a professional look and feel by using the same font styles and sizes and similar color schemes throughout?

· How heavily are the graphics on the Web site?

· How many Web pages total does each of your competitors have on their site? Does your site need improvement on the amount of content-rich Web pages you have?

· Does the entire Web site focus on one central theme alone?

Placement of Keywords

· Where are your competitors using their chosen keywords? The META title tag? The META description tag? The META keywords tag? In ALT tags? What about in link text and headline tags? The page URL? Image names?

· How often do those keywords appear on each Web page?

· Where does each of their keywords first appear on the pages of each of your competitors sites?

· Are they achieving good rankings for their chosen keywords online in Google, MSN and Yahoo!?

· What is the keyword weight and density of the entire content of your competitors’ pages? Are they keyword spamming?

· What are their chosen keywords being targeted on their sites? Are they single words or long-tail keywords with 3, 4 or even 5 keyword phrases?

Off Page Factors

· Check your competitors Alexa traffic rank and compare with yours. Do they receive more or less Web traffic to their sites, according to Alexa.com?

· What is their Google PageRank? Again, is it higher or lower than yours?

· Go to a reputable link popularity checker online and compare the number of incoming links your site has versus your competitors. How much improvement in link building, if any, does your site need to effectively compete online?

· What types of incoming links are they receiving, how top quality are these links, and how much traffic does a link from these sites generate for your competitors each month?

· Are any of your competitors registered with any popular link directories, like dmoz.org, Yahoo! Directory, Business.com or other similar high traffic directories online?

· Do they have a sign up box for an industry email newsletter on their sites?

Use of Spamming Techniques

· Is the competitor’s site using any spam or unethical search engine practices? If so, what are they?

· Do any of these sites have doorway or gateway pages?

· Do they have same color text on a same color background?

· Are they blatantly keyword spamming?

· Are these sites publicly listed or affiliated with gambling or adult-oriented sites?

What does your resume say about you? Sure, listing your skills and abilities is helpful, but would you like to know what REALLY gets attention? Accomplishments. Accomplishments show others what you are capable of doing.

A real estate agent resume has to focus on what you have done well in the past. It must focus on successful sales, outstanding communication, fast results and more! Buyers and sellers want to know what has made you successful in the past. It is commonly believed that if you have done well in the past, you will continue to do well in the future. So, you have to show them what you have done in order to convince them of what you can do for them.

Here are two things you must do well in order to impress new clients with your resume.

First, when a person or family is interested in selling their home, they are looking for someone who can sell it quickly and for a great price. If you want them to hire you to sell their house, then you have to show them how you can do the job better than anyone else. Competition is stiff and you have to make it very clear that you will do more for them than anyone else.

How do you accomplish this?

You must focus on your knowledge of the neighborhood and the market factors that affect the sales of homes in the local area. Know your stuff. If you can convince a home seller of this, then you will win their trust and get their business.

Second, when working with buyers, listening is essential. You have to understand what your buyers are looking for. When you can keep the home buyer’s needs first and foremost in your mind, you will be more likely to provide the kind of service to them that they deserve and will applaud. Focus on each buyer individually and ask a lot of questions about what their needs really are, then listen to their answers.

How do you convey all of this on a resume?

Don’t think of your resume as a single piece of paper. Use a number of different resume-type pieces to clarify your accomplishments, skills, awards and successes working with clients.

The key is to show, rather than tell. Testimonials are outstanding for this. If you can get past clients to write a brief note detailing their experience with you, you will have a much better chance of convincing new clients to work with you.

A real estate agent resume should always include these items:

a resume detailing your experience and education (like a “real” resume)

an array of testimonials from past clients

a list of accomplishments, awards, goals reached, sales figures achieved

Your resume must be truly remarkable if you are to gain the trust of new clients. You know that the field is highly competitive, so you have to do everything you can to improve your chances of impressing buyers and sellers.

A real estate agent resume is made up of several marketing pieces — all of which are designed to attract new clients. You can guarantee your success by ensuring your real estate agent resume and other marketing pieces are very professional.

Buyers and sellers need outstanding real estate agents to help them through the process of buying and selling a home. Show them how you can do it better than anyone else and you will be successful.

Email marketing brings me in thousands of dollars a month. That’s a fact. So why is it that so many people write to me and tell me that they can’t make a dime with their email marketing efforts? The reason is simple. They don’t know what they’re doing. If that sounds harsh, so be it. It is sadly very true. Well, if you’re having problems getting your emails opened and read and aren’t making any sales, this article will give you a few solid tips to turn that all around.

Probably the most important thing in order to assure success is getting your email opened. People try all kinds of tricks to do this. But the best way to get your email opened is simply with a subject line that promises a real benefit for those who take the time to read the email. For example, something like, “Free Report On How To Cure Your Warts” is going to work like gangbusters for a person who is building a list in the wart cure niche. Who with that problem isn’t going to want a free report to cure that problem? This is the simplest way to get your emails opened.

After you get them opened, the next step is to get them read. To do this, you simply follow up on your promise. Don’t say one thing in your subject and something completely different in your email. That is going to do nothing but tick off your list. An email with solid content that truly helps the prospect is going to not only get the email read but also get the prospect to follow through and at least check out your offer. In this business, you MUST give in order to get. Those who remember this are the ones who are successful.

Finally, there is the problem of even getting your emails delivered. Too many marketers try to cut corners here either by sending their emails through their own servers or using a second rate company. In the latter case, you’re not going to get the delivery rates that you’d like. In the former case, you are risking getting your ISP to shut you down. One spam complaint is all it takes to do that. Use a reputable company like Aweber or GetResponse and you’ll get more emails delivered.

There you have it. If you do just these three things, you’ll find that you’ll get more emails delivered, opened and read and you’ll ultimately make more sales.

Lets face it we have all heard the money is in the list. The list, the list, the list, thats all we ever hear. Well suppose you have a good list of opt-in subscribers or you have several thousand good leads you would like to send your information to. Without a good email blaster it’s like sitting in a boat with no oars. Having all the opt-in leads in the world will not help you if you do not choose the right email blaster.

Not all email blasters are created the same. We’re presuming you have permission to email these people, (meaning they have requested information from you or your affiliates at some point) Some email blasters will send your message to there spam box, and we all know allot of people do not even bother to looks in there spam folder.

There are many email blasters available, some even free. Choosing a free email blaster is often limited to the number of emails that you can send out, and Some free email blasters even put advertisement with the email you’re sending out, so be careful when choosing and email blaster for your marketing needs. Read the fine print if you’re going to choose a free email blaster, otherwise you may end up promoting someone elses program or offer along with yours.

Most of the time it is better to choose an email blaster that guarantees a deliverability rate of at least 90%, and there are several of them on the market to choose from. Most of these email blaster programs will require a monthly fee to use there service, and most of them will even handle you’re opt out subscribers.

There’s been a lot of changes in search engine optimization at least over the past 9 years that I’ve been doing it. Back in 1999 keyword stuffing was considered, if not white hat, then a reasonably grayish-white way to get a web page to the top of the rankings. Back then, you would come across many websites where the tops of the pages (above the fold as they say) were for the visitors of the site and keywords stuffed at the bottom of the page were for the search engines.

But, over time a consensus among webmasters, SEOs and the search engines emerged that this method was not preferable. What developed as preferable over time was writing complete sentences for the visitors of the website without any regard to the search engines. But, for a while the search engines lagged in rewarding this behavior ahead of the keyword stuffing behavior.

It was only after this reward system took hold, and the ranking algorithms became savvy to this trick and delivered a consistent reward-punishment system to shall we say, good pages versus bad pages, that webmasters and SEOs had a playbook in which to follow. Of course, many years ago, much of this was unspoken.

There was no Matt Cutts from Google or Google Guy giving SEOs hints here and there of what behaviors were considered white hat, black hat, gray hat or snow cone hat. Before the days of Matt Cutts, SEOs had to guess and talk to each other on message boards to compare, confabulate and surmise what was going on with the latest algorithm change or anomaly (of course this still goes on today).

But, just as the search engine algorithms evolved so have the black hat SEOs who have kept one step ahead of the search engines (or tried to) and have become even more sophisticated at gaming the system. Cloaking, sophisticated redirects for siphoning Page Rank (PR) or cheating link partners have abounded.

An entire industry has evolved around buying and selling text links for the purposes of passing PR from one site to the next. The buyers want to buy enough PR to get their websites up in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) and those doing the selling are happy to make a profit doing just that.

But, even throughout all the efforts to game the search engines, old school SEO hasn’t changed that much over time. The basics of keyword research, on-page optimization, link-building and tracking results, which is the core of SEO has stayed the core.

Sure, there are new wrinkles as to exactly how to do this core of white hat search engine optimization. Within the past couple of years, blogs and social media have both come on strong and evolved. Old school SEOs have had to be flexible and adapt to new market conditions and even embrace the new online media.

But, when one gets lost in the new and shiny techniques (which is easy to do) it is important to pull back a while, gain some perspective and realize that old school SEO will still get a website where it needs to be. And, as trust is important in any business relationship, clients can rest assured that their white hat won’t get their website dumped at the drop of a hat for using black hat techniques that the search engines have caught wind of and penalized.

Old school SEO still rocks and there is no reason to believe that this will change anytime soon.

People talk about white hat seo and black hat seo all the time in the search engine optimization industry, what do they mean? Specifically, terms like white hat seo sound like they apply to hackers and malicious virus programmers, why are they being applied to the advertising industry?

This is a great question, and I have read everything I can find related to the topic. I mostly see confusion and misconception. There seems to be a great deal of fear out there related to not being “good” if you are a consultant in this space. You would hate for something bad to happen to your clients’ web site, or worse, the performance in the search engines to suffer significantly. And many turn to Google for clear definitions on this topic because they are the market leader in search engine usage. I’m not sure why that gives them the authority to define the ethics of Internet advertising activities, but it seems to in many people’s eyes.

I’ve looked to Google for clarity on the topic, but this has not been great. Sure, they have guidelines for webmasters and everyone should read them. They offer some helpful information on what is considered “okay” and what is not considered white hat seo. But they are also have a number of very vague statements such as “don’t have multiple sites with substantially duplicate content.” Well, what does “substantially duplicate content” mean? If I run two blogs about running where we discuss different running shoes, is that substantially duplicate content? I understand that some people take content and post it to thousands of different web sites and we all agree that this practice is duplicate content and is bad. But these are extreme examples. Where is the line? What if the content is posted to 25 web sites? Too many? Not enough to be bad? This entire discussion starts to feel very slippery and without objective anchors to define activities. Perhaps this is how Google likes it? It does serve their purposes.

In the end, the term white hat seo is not helpful to me. First off, it was stolen from the hacker community and is really better suited to describe internet security. Second, I can’t find a clear definition on what it is anyway, even from Google. One of my favorite quotes is: “more and more white hat seo is nothing.” I laughed out loud when I read that because it is somewhat true. But what’s really true is that search engine optimization is such a new industry that it is without any solid definitions. That’s the real reason for the confusion and that will be corrected over time.
